The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Atlanta Professional Chapter is partnering with the Christian Transhumanist Association (CTA) to bring you the most engaging topic Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics professionals and scholars are talking about. How engineering and technology advancements will change us in the "future" (which is not that distant anymore), and what will be the political, economic, social and religious consequences?
On Saturday, August 25, the CTA will hold its annual, one-day conference on the campus of Lipscomb University, in Nashville, TN (only about 4 hours from Atlanta). It's topic is "Faith, Technology, and the Future," addressing some of the following questions:
Could we live to be 500?
Will A.I. be our friend—or our enemy?
Survival of the richest? Will the rich leave us behind?
What does it mean to be human?
The keynote speaker, Aubrey de Grey, is a Cambridge research scientist leading the charge to radically extend human life.
Another speaker, Ted Peters, is a well-respected theologian, and is deeply involved with the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences in Berkeley, CA, and its flagship journal (Theology and Science), and teaches for Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union. Other significant thinkers—both secular and religious—will be speaking.
