Lunch With A Leader

Program Goals:
In partnership with the Sandy Springs Education ForceRidgeview Charter School and Riverwood International Charter School, the Lunch with a Leader program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to meet and learn about the world outside of school from members of the community.  Community mentors are asked to share their stories and help relate the importance of getting an education to these middle school students who might not otherwise hear this message.

Target Demographic:
Due to the nature of the school’s student population and the dropout rate of the feeder high school, this program will begin by focusing on Latino and Hispanic students.  Thus, Lunch with a Leader is working with the Sandy Springs Education Force to assist in partnering with Hispanic organizations throughout Atlanta to find volunteers who can serve as a role model for these young 11-15 year old Latino students.

Program Outline:
This will be an informal, discussion type event during the students’ lunch periods.  A typical program format would include the community mentor saying a few words about themselves and where they come from, what they do, and then using their experiences to answer to topic question for the day.  Any visuals to enhance the presentation are always welcome.
